Alyth Choral Society delivers dazzling world première

The Alyth Choral Society gave a summer concert on 6 July in which  the audience was treated to the world première of Psalm 118: Give Thanks to the Eternal by Julian Dawes.

Another new work in the programme was a re-imagining of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons by Joanna Forbes L’Estrange — A Season to Sing in which the choir was challenged to not only sing, but also perform actions to reflect the various seasons.

Visual effects were also added by the ballerina, Tamara Hinson. Her dance movements, inspired by Vivaldi’s music, were magical.

Alison Smart Fisher writesJephtha is one of Handel’s finest oratorios, and the story it tells is one which explores the deepest feelings  of human love,  piety, and sacrifice. Handel captures exactly the mood of every twist and turn of the plot, enhancing Thomas Morrell’s libretto to bring each character and situation, each moment, to colourful life.  Written toward the end of his life, and at the end of his long and fruitful composing career,
Jephtha presents us with real people in real-life situations, expressing real emotions.
